The project is the construction of Disabled Access improvements for publicly funded housing in Chico California. The project includes selective demolition, concrete curbs, walks and pavements, metal railings, plastic and metal signage.

Established in 1982, we believe in a small-team approach with a minimum of outside consultants. We do not maintain the popular distinction between architecture (high design) and engineering (troublesome details). Without such artificial intramural distinctions, this approach enables us to maintain tight control over the design and construction process.

the project is the construction of accessibility improvements to the historic Oroville Veterans Memorial Hall, including an elevator, and accessible toilet rooms. the project includes selective demolition, limited excavation, concrete foundations, steel structural elements, cold-formed metal stud systems, elevator work, plumbing, HVAC work electrical work, disabled access work and general interior and exterior finish work. to avoid excessive lateral loads on the existing structure, the elevator shaft was designed to be self supporting both vertically and horizontally.

PROGRAM
The existing convalescent hospital building was reworked as medical offices. Where feasible, the ceiling was opened to the roof structure, creating an airy open feel. The form of the building is softened with plaster wall elements extending past the existing strong roof profile, concealing equipment and providing a clean contemporary grouping of plaster masses linked by metal faced roofs and trellises.

Griffith Architects was asked by the CBI board to investigate the spatial requirements and possible form for a new Center for Jewish Life. We are midway in this process, having polled the Congregation, reviewed existing facilities, developed a spatial program, and held a vision meeting with interested members.
A number of themes have emerged—expandable Sanctuary/meeting Hall—views to the landscape--courtyard–separate buildings—security--sacred without pretense—sensitive to the community—low profile, but welcoming—green design within reasonable costs—natural materials—

B St is a destination restaurant in the historic Record Building in downtown Chico. Built in the early 1900’s the building had experienced an accumulation of misguided renovations, but still showed basic good form and an intriguing asset in the unused backyard. The strategy was to open up the entire length of the building to the original high ceilings, allowing light and greenery from the courtyard beyond to illuminate the dining and seafood bar area. Facilities ( dish-line, trash and restrooms ) were inserted out of sight off to the side, coexisting with the adjacent sub-tenant, which will remain in operation. The kitchen, -- major focus of the B Street concept-- was located prominently at the very front of the space, allowing views of the chefs at work to the interested passers-by. Design details include a mix of the historical forms of the building combined with contemporary fixtures and wooden screens.

Griffith Architects have been working with David Halimi and Wanderful Media ( formerly travidia ) to convert an 80 year old theater building in downtown Chico into a modern open plan office.   The Goal of the project has been to meticulously peel back the layers of additions and Tenant improvements that have hidden the buildings true and original form and structure.  The way we thought best to achieve the combination of the original building and the new additions was to minimize the new construction to a honest bare material palette, highlighting modern construction materials and techniques.

The Project is the construction of Outdoor Cafe Seating per City of Chico guidelines to serve both restaurant vendors located at the ground floor of Second and Broadway, Jamba Juice and Burgers & Brew. The design takes advantage of the existing grade elevations to create raised seating for Burgers & Brew at the Broadway frontage.
Additional sitewalks are extended into the existing parking strip to provide pedestrian access per City standards.
All seating areas are enclosed with railings matching the prominent railings existing at the project site.
Seating and tables compatible with the historic building are proposed. As the building and railings are intricate, the raised paving is kept simple with darkened concrete with clean sawcuts at the Cafe areas, standard City finishes at the public areas.

This project is to develop a sensible home that incorporates the basic simplicity of the Mission Style with today’s construction system & technologies. Our thesis throughout the design process has been to do more with less. California’s original and traditional architecture emphasizes the return to simple, authentic and harmonious design.

The proposed Project is the Construction of a Single Family Home at 302 Grace Lane in Arroyo Grande. The project sits on a 1.16 acre hillside parcel and is intended preserve the pastoral character of the Area surrounding established neighborhood by not over developing the site.

By placing the footprint of the main house on the steepest part of the hill, we hope to maximize the lot's flatter areas as outdoor space for the family.

The building, originally titled “War Memorial Building”, is a historical gem, constructed in the Classic Revival style in the late 1920s to honor veterans of the Great War. It is an assembly building with various meeting rooms, an assembly hall with a stage and green room areas, dining facilities and toilet facilities including showers. These functions are provided on two levels, a raised main fl oor and a partial daylight basement. Walls are constructed of reinforced concrete with timber roof and floor structures. The building has been unoccupied for several years. It is “listable” as an historic structure, (although not formally listed) and as such is eligible for regulation under the California Historical Building Code.

Addressing concerns regarding the negative effects of UV sunlight and energy loss from the single glazed windows was our first design task. We investigated multiple methods of screening the gallery windows, without losing contact with the strong sense of organization they bring to the original interiors. Various screening methods were modeled in the South Gallery and evaluated with respect to expression of the window locations and proportions vs. protection and neutral locations for the varying art objects to be displayed.the best solution, shown at right, and in the sketches opposite, echoes the window proportions with a screening wall, and filtered UV free reflected light marks the windows existence while allowing flexibility in the placement of the art.

1st and Main. The JC Penney building is a remnant of the time when the Downtown was the commercial center of Chico. After Penney’s moved to the Mall, the building was subdivided into a series of retail and business storefronts on the ground floor with storage and office uses on the second floor. Large windows on the second floor were boarded up in an attempt to modernize the exterior, while the original second staircase visible in old photos was removed to maximize street level frontage. The second floor is under-utilized, with much space taken over for utilities for the ground floor tenants.

The project is changing an existing restaurant occupancy building into a different restaurant. The project involves creating a level flooring surface, relocating the restrooms, exterior and interior seating, a mezzanine for seating, both a display kitchen and a working kitchen and a banquet room. The existing materials are brick, wood floor and exposed beam ceilings.
